This newspaper was founded in 1851 by Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones.  In 1896 Adolph Ochs acquired it where to this day his descendents are still involved with the paper.

From the beginning the paper had an excellent reputation winning its first Pulitzer Prize in 1918 for articles written about World War I. Since then it has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize a phenomenal 94 times. It is one of the most prominent and respected papers in the US.
